Johnny Bowman murder: FBI, police step up investigation into 1984 murder
MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - The FBI and Virginia State Police are renewing an effort to solve a strange, decades-old murder of a Virginia state trooper in his Manassas home.
Authorities on Wednesday announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the 1984 killing of trooper Johnny Bowman.
Bowman was repeatedly stabbed by an assailant when he answered his front door on the day he was killed. The killer fled on foot, leaving behind eyeglasses, a wig and a construction hard hat.
Perhaps most significant, the assailant left behind DNA evidence that continues to be analyzed. Police say advances in forensic testing have yielded new information in the case.
Anyone with potential information on the case is asked to call the FBI or Virginia State Police.
