Lincoln Memorial Reflection Pool renovations almost complete
The $34 million makeover to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is almost complete. The facelift includes handicapped accessible sidewalks, new lighting and security-enhanced landscaping.
There are also big changes to the 90-year-old pool itself, which had been leaking, sinking and stinking for years. Completely redone, the new pool will be filled with water pumped in from the tidal basin. The water will be filtered and constantly circulated.
“We think the water quality’s going to be much better. It’s going to be much better for the environment,” said Bob Vogel, National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent. “We’re not – hopefully – going to have huge amounts of algae, which we had in the past.”
Renovations are expected to be complete by August 31st.
