Maryland's 2011 infant mortality rate holds steady at 6.7
August 8, 2012 - 09:46 am
Maryland’s 2011 infant mortality rate held steady at 6.7 per 1000 live births, the same as last year, announced Gov. Martin O’Malley on Wednesday.
O’Malley made the announcement at Anne Arundel Medical Center, the second largest birthing facility in the state, with more than 5,300 births there in 2011.
O’Malley said the rate is the lowest ever recorded in Maryland.
In 2012, the governor said he would like to reduce the rate by 10 percent.
