Mr. Coffee recall: 600,000 single-cup makers are a burn hazard
NEW YORK (AP) - More than 600,000 Mr. Coffee single cup brewers are being recalled because of a potential burn hazard.
The units are imported by Jarden Consumer Solutions.
The company, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, said Thursday that they are recalling 520,000 units in the U.S. and 80,700 in Canada.
A build-up of steam in the water reservoir can force the brewing chamber open and expel hot coffee grounds and water.
The following model numbers are included in the recall:
Jarden has received 164 reports of the brewing chamber opening due to steam pressure, including about 59 reports in the U.S. and two in Canada of burn injuries to consumers' face, upper torso and hands.
Consumers should contact Jarden at (800) 993-8609 for details on getting a free replacement unit.
