Soon, D.C. and the neighboring region will be swarmed with college students and young professionals looking for somewhere to live. It’s perfect timing, then, that a surge of apartments will soon be available.

The wave of new buildings—which will create around 6,000 new units by the end of the year—will not only give potential residents new housing options, but also some relief from the ever-rising cost of rent, The Washington Post reported.

There has not been such a surge since the economic downturn in 2008.

The new building will largely take place in D.C.—namely in the H Street, northeast corridor and the Mount Vernon Triangle area, the Post said. But, there are also units opening up in Fairfax, Bethesda and Silver Spring.

The majority of the units are aimed at young professionals that are looking to live in proximity to shopping and public transportation, developers are saying, according to the Post.
