Officer shoots self in leg in Fort Washington
August 27, 2012 - 08:02 pm
A Prince George's County police officer is in serious condition after he accidentally shot himself while responding to a fox attack.
According to police spokeswoman Julie Parker, a woman called police just after 5 p.m. to report she had been bitten by a possibly rabid fox.
As the fox charged, the responding officers began backing away. One of the officers fired his weapon, tripped on a step and accidentally shot himself in the leg.
The fox was hit by one of the bullets and died.
A police spokesperson says the officer's injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
A routine investigation is underway.
