Olympics 2012: Michael Phelps wins 100-meter butterfly gold
August 3, 2012 - 02:45 pm
LONDON (AP) - Michael Phelps has completed his individual Olympic swimming career as a champion.
Phelps narrowly held off Chad le Clos of South Africa to win gold in the 100-meter butterfly on Friday, bringing home the 17th gold medal of his illustrious Olympic career.
His time of 51.21 seconds was just about a quarter of a second ahead of le Clos, who edged Phelps by 0.05 seconds in the 200-meter butterfly final earlier this week.
Evgeny Korotyshkin tied for the silver in the final, equaling le Clos' time of 51.44 seconds.
