Police: State trooper rear-ended by drunk driver
A Virginia State Police say a trooper is recovering at home after his cruiser was struck from behind by a drunk driver early Saturday morning.
Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller said Trooper K.S. Fleenor was on the scene of an earlier accident around midnight on I-495 in Fairfax
County at Tysons Corner.
Fleenor parked his vehicle behind a tow truck removing a damaged vehicle from the scene to protect the tow truck driver from northbound traffic. Geller said Fleenor's emergency lights were on at the time.
As he sat in his vehicle, Fleenor's car was struck from behind by a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The force of the crash caused the trooper's car to hit the vehicle being towed, which was then pushed into the tow truck.
The trooper and the tow truck driver were taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital, treated and released.
Christina Hirt, the driver of the Oldsmobile, was charged with DUI. Hirt, 30, of Alexandria refused treatment at the scene, Geller said.
