SUMMER OLYMPICS
President Obama congratulates women's Olympic gymnastics team
U.S. President Barack Obama is fully engulfed in campaign season, but, he also found time to take part in the Olympic excitement.
With First Lady Michelle Obama in London as the head of the U.S. delegation to the games, Obama engaged in the excitement when he called the U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team to congratulate them on their win.
President Obama called and spoke to all five members of the “Fab Five” team: Aly Reisman, Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and Gabby Douglas.
Along with congratulating the women individually, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Obama told Reisman “Michelle and have watched and decided of all the Olympians you guys amaze us the most.”
To Wieber, he said: “I’m so impressed by how you bounced back and led the team. Tell your parents I’m proud of them too. I don’t think I could watch if I were them.”
