August 15, 2012 - 11:42 am
NEW YORK (AP) - Less than a month after withdrawing from competing for Spain in the Summer Olympics due to nagging knee injuries, the standout player says he will not compete in the upcoming U.S. Open, either.
Saying in a tweet that he was "very sad" about making the decision, Nadal said that he still isn't ready to play in one of the biggest majors of the tennis season.
I am very sad to announce that I am not ready to play the US Open in NY. Thanks to my fans for their support and specially, the new yorkers.

Nadal currently sits 3rd in the world men's tennis rankings behind Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
