Skeletal remains found in Alexandria
August 20, 2012 - 06:18 pm
Virginia State Police and the Medical Examiner's Office are working to identify skeletal remains found near I-395.
Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the remains were found by a construction crew at 11:12 a.m. Monday in the cloverleaf of the exit 3A ramp in Alexandria.
She says the body is too badly decomposed to determine whether the person is male of female. No identification was found on the body.
The remains were taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas.
There's evidence of homeless encampments in the heavily-wooded area where the body was found, Geller added, but none appeared to be currently occupied.
