Daybreak Daily’s glance at the pop-culture weekend that was finds news about a certain beach, a wedding, other things, and the mystery music video.
NEW JERSEY OCEANFRONT: Or something like that. Circle Oct. 4 (if you must), per the New York Times, “To those who thought “Jersey Shore” would not or could not survive for three full years, MTV is proving otherwise. The network has set a premiere date for the sixth season of this much-mocked but also much-watched reality show and has ordered a second season of the spinoff “Snooki and JWoww,” which features these two “Jersey Shore” cast members living elsewhere in New Jersey.” http://nyti.ms/MeQCDT
I DO: And she does, per the Los Angeles Times, “Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied enjoyed a much different dance Saturday than the one they shared in"Black Swan" — their first dance as man and wife. Portman married the French choreographer this weekend in Big Sur, reports People, in a Jewish ceremony before friends and family. Details are scarce, but Ivanka Trump was present for the nuptials, which took place after sundown.” http://lat.ms/OKwnLN
OBLIGATORY MENTION: This is getting kind of old, per People, “Since news broke of Kristen Stewart's hook-up with Rupert Sanders, the married director of Snow White and the Huntsman, her boyfriend Robert Pattinson has been coping with heartbreak. He's not the only one. Sanders's wife of seven years, Liberty Ross, was "devastated," a source tells PEOPLE of the model-turned-actress, who played Stewart's mother in the hit film.” http://bit.ly/NWAloo
RECALL IN TOTAL: It never had a chance, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Movie-going was down again at the domestic box office as Sony's sci-fi action epic Total Recall opened to a soft $26 million, well behind the $36.4 million earned by returning champ The Dark Knight Rises in its third weekend. New family player Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days also came in on the low end of expectations in opening to $14.7 million. However, the film cost a modest $22 million to produce so is already on solid ground financially.” http://bit.ly/QwlksI
OBIT: Just the facts, per the AP, “Chavela Vargas, who defied gender stereotypes to become one of the most legendary singers in Mexico, died Sunday at age 93. Her friend and biographer Maria Cortina said Vargas died at a hospital in the city of Cuernavaca, where she had been admitted for heart and respiratory problems.” http://apne.ws/OKxMSI
SELF PROMOTION: Sure looks that way, per E!, “Could Nick Jonas be the next American Idol judge at the ripe old age of 19? Possibly. The Jonas Brothers singer told fans he's in the running for a seat at the famed judges' table, tweeting Saturday, "The rumors are true...I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol, and it would be a dream come true if it happens. ?#nickonidol." http://eonli.ne/OFOyol
WHITNEY: She sparkles, per Entertainment Weekly, “A new trailer for Sparkle, in theaters Aug. 17, showcases a dapper Cee Lo Green singing “I’m a Man” while sporting an uncharacteristic full head of hair. While the clip focuses mainly on Green and leading lady Jordin Sparks, the most poignant moments come toward the end, when we get glimpses of Whitney Houston in her final movie role. Houston died just three months after production on Sparkle wrapped.” http://bit.ly/Q2sSPG
WHAT YOU MISSED: Or maybe you didn’t, per Rolling Stone, “It was a scene straight out of The Day After Tomorrow: a sea of confused, disgruntled people flooding the streets of Chicago, left to wonder about their fate. The cause of this mayhem: severe thunderstorms, which temporarily forced the evacuation of the second day of Lollapalooza on Saturday. All was not lost, however: after a nearly three-hour delay, festival officials reopened the gates and Lolla was officially back on.” http://bit.ly/Qwvv0w
MIDDLETON, KATE: Says so right here, per Radar, “Just in case security staff at the London Olympics weren't among the three billion people who watched her wedding, Kate Middleton has been forced to wear picture ID for the 2012 games. In a move worthy of a gold medal in the silly stakes, the pretty royal - who is arguably one of the most famous women in the world - has been wearing a huge name badge, complete with her photo and her title at the games.” http://bit.ly/MnB9wL
