RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell is bringing together state and national experts, teachers and policymakers to discuss education reforms.

The education summit scheduled to begin Wednesday will feature speeches from former U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and U.S. Department of Education Deputy Secretary Tony Miller.

The conference also will include a governors-only panel featuring McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Virginia Gov. Doug Wilder and former West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise.

Officials say the gathering will discuss strategies for successful classrooms, expand school choice, enhance teacher quality and continue to focus on workforce development.

Former Virginia Secretary of Education Jim Dyke and state House Majority Leader Kirk Cox are serving as co-chairs of the summit.

Cox has been a teacher for 30 years.

The summit is scheduled to run through Friday.
