Weekend closures to cause delays, at I-66, Beltway
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect heavy delays this weekend on westbound Interstate 66 approaching the Capital Beltway.
Weather permitting, multiple lanes will be closed beginning Friday at 9 p.m., with work continuing until 5 a.m. Monday.
Multiple lanes will be closed during overnight hours, but at least one lane will be closed all weekend.
Travelers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes and are advised to use alternate routes.
The construction work is part of the multi-billion dollar 495 Express Lanes project, which is expected to conclude at the end of the year.
Crews will be performing demolition, excavation, paving and marking roadways.
