Bowie YMCA catches fire
September 20, 2012 - 07:01 am
Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze at the YMCA building in Bowie Thursday morning.
About 4:30 a.m., officials say firefighters found roofing materials on fire on the side the building, located on Moylan Avenue. A second alarmed was sounded as a precaution.
Noone was inside the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, officials say.
The fire, which was quickly extinguished, caused $50,000 in damages, officials say. The cause remains under investigation.
YMCA spokesperson Linda Blake says the location will remain closed until further notice as crews access the extent of the damages.
The two-story building was formerly a school.
