Boy Scout, 13, rescued after sailboat capsizes in Chesapeake Bay
CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) - The Coast Guard says boaters rescued a 13-year-old Boy Scout whose sailboat capsized in the Chesapeake Bay.
A kayaker contacted the Coast Guard about 10:30 a.m. Saturday and reported that a sailboat had capsized and a person was in the water.
A crew was dispatched and upon arrival found the teenager had been rescued by occupants of a 30-foot center console boat.
The boaters took the teenager back to shore at the Kiptopeke State Park.
The Coast Guard crew remained on the scene until a troop's scout master arrived to salvage the 16-foot sailboat.
Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel Eisenhard says the Boy Scout was wearing a life jacket.
