Christian Ariel Romero charged after allegedly stabbing cross-dressing man
A 20-year-old Hyattsville man has been charged with attempted murder and assault after allegedly stabbing a cross-dressing man after they had a sexual encounter over the weekend.
The suspect, identified as Christian Ariel Romero, faces a bond review on Tuesday afternoon. He's charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft.
Montgomery County Police say they were notified of the incident at a Ruatan Street home in Silver Spring at about 6:15 a.m. Saturday, where police say they found a 41-year-old victim suffering from stab wounds.
Police allege that the Romero and the victim had previously met at the Cococabana Bar and Grill on University Boulevard in Hyattsville, where Romero allegedly approached the victim--a man posing as a woman--and offered money in exchange for a sexual act. Romero then drove the victim to his home in Silver Spring, where police say they had a sexual encounter.
After the sex act, police say that the suspect and the victim both went outside to smoke. When the victim turned away from Romero, authorities say Romero stabbed the victim several times with a folding knife, then fled.
The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition, but officials called the injuries non-life threatening.
Several hours later on Saturday, police say Romero returned to the victim's residence and told other occupants that he was there to apologize. Police say that when they arrived, he admitted to stabbing the victim after he realized that the victim was not actually a woman.
