Coolidge High School shooting: Student wounded on campus
Updated: September 20, 2012 - 07:18 am
Coolidge High School is adding more security after a student was shot on campus Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, a male in his late teens, was shot at the back of the northwest D.C. school, located in the 6300 block of 5th Street. He was reportedly conscious and breathing.
A suspect was taken into custody a short time after the shooting.
The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting, which took place as school was letting out.
Authorities say the shooting involved two students and stemmed from a verbal altercation.
"It's incredibly unfortunate," said D.C. Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson, who added it appeared to be an isolated incident involving only the two students involved.
The victim was shot in the leg and is recovering.
The names of the person in custody and the shooting victim weren't immediately released.
