September 18, 2012 - 11:45 am
BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore police say a researcher for the National Institutes of Health was killed in a shooting near his home.
A police department spokesman says 51-year-old Dr. Peter Marvit was fatally wounded Monday night in what may have been an attempted robbery.
Someone called 911 about a shooting about 10:30 p.m. in the Herring Run Park area. Officers found Marvit outside his car with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Marvit lived about four blocks from where he was shot.
Police say he was also an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland.
