Dulles Toll Road increases up for public debate
Drivers will have a chance to speak out about proposed toll increases on the Dulles Toll Road.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will hold the first of three public hearings at Thursday at Stone Bridge High School, located at 43100 Hay Road in Ashburn. The hearing will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The plan calls for combined tolls at the main plaza and ramps to rise from the current of $2.25 to $2.75 next year, to $3.50 in 2014, and $4.50 in 2015.
The toll increases are slated to help pay $3 billion of the Metro's new $6 billion Silver Line from D.C. to Dulles Airport and on to Loudoun County.
Officials say the toll increases were expected.
Some of the additional revenue would be used for operating and maintaining the toll road.
The other public hearings are set for Sept. 12 at South Lakes High School in Reston; and Sept. 13 at Spring Hill Elementary School in McLean.
