Elijah Warrent, Pret A Manger staffer allegedly robs restaurant
At Pret A Manger restaurant in downtown D.C. Thursday, there were no signs of last night's robbery.
But at closing time, police say three men ski-masked men dressed Pret A Manger uniforms came in, pulled a gun and tried to rob the place.
An employee recognized one robber's voices as that of a co-worker and tried to wrestle the gun away. The gun went off, robbers fled, and police put out a lookout. About an hour later, six miles away in the Stanton road area of southeast, MPD Chief Cathy Lanier said officers spotted a man on foot.
"Our narcotics team made a stop of an individual who was in possession of a distinct firearm," she says.
The suspect arrested was identified as 19-year-old Elijah Warren of Upper Marlboro, Md.
There have been other armed robberies this week downtown. Wednesday, at 13th and P Street on the sidewalk, Tuesday at 13th and l Street. Numbers show D.C. robberies so far this year are 19 percent higher than a year ago.
