Falls Church attempted sexual assault suspect sought
Fairfax County Police detectives are searching for a suspect in the attempted burglary and sexual assault of a woman in Falls Church last Friday morning.
Officials say that at about 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 7, a 40-year-old woman says that she entered her apartment in the 8000 block of Chanute Place to find an unknown man inside. She alleges that he tried to sexually assault her, but was able to fight him off.
"When she was attacked, she kept fighting," Fairfax County Police Ofc. Eddy Azcarate said. "Her constant defense wore down his attack, to which point he just gave up and left."
The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s, then fled. Police say that he's a 5-foot-6 man with a thin build, short black hair and brown eyes. Police are unsure of how he got into the victim's apartment.
A sense of fear continues to linger at Yorktown Square, a garden-style apartment community where the attack happened.
"I check my surroundings every time I walk out the door now," resident Rayna Thompson said. "Every time I go inside, it's an eerie feeling."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Fairfax County Police or Crime Solvers.
