Genrich Sretenski skating coach arrested in Maryland
BALTIMORE (AP) - The attorney for a figure skating coach who competed in the Olympics for the Soviet Union says he denies allegations that led to his arrest in Maryland.
Genrich Sretenski was arrested Tuesday in Maryland on charges filed in New York. Attorney Rene Sandler says he denies anything improper.
The attorney says Sretenski adamantly denies the allegations and will zealously defend himself. Sandler says Sretenski is very well respected in the skating community and support from current and former skaters and parents has been overwhelming.
The attorney says the charges stem from an incident 13 months ago, but are sealed and she had not seen them. She would not identify the alleged accuser or discuss details.
A bail review is scheduled Thursday for Sretenski, who is facing extradition to New York.
