Today’s peek at the politically charged pop-culture world finds a couple of slackers, someone who leaves you scratching your head, many other times, and the mystery music video.

DUDE: Answer the phone, per Us Weekly, “In a new Obama for America campaign video, President Barack Obama enlists the help of notorious, snack-happy slackers Harold and Kumar (played by John Cho and Kal Penn) just before the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Charlotte, North Carolina. "Dude, who was that? It sounded intense," Cho, 40, asks Penn as he hangs up his phone. "The President," Penn, 35 -- who has served as an Associate Director of Public Engagement under Obama -- replies nonchalantly.” http://bit.ly/NaSQom

MEANWHILE: Um, what?. . .,per the Huffington Post, “Today in mixtape politics: Nicki Minaj's appearance on Lil Wayne's new release, Dedication 4, includes a couplet that suggests she's voting for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Here are the lyrics in question: "I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy b----es is f---ing up the economy." The lines seem simple enough, but much of the internet refuses to take Minaj at her word.” http://huff.to/PGnpzA

CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG: Or something like that, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Can movies change the world? That was the topic on the table at a Telluride Film Festival panel on terrorism hosted by film scholar Annette Insdorf. And Ben Affleck, whose new film Argo, emerged as the top Oscar contender unveiled at this year's festival, argued forcibly that they can.” http://bit.ly/RHFb4O

MONEY FOR NOTHING: And the chicks for free, per the Los Angeles Times, “For the last 28 years, MTV’s Video Music Awards have provided a wealth of zeitgeist pop culture moments and delicious train wrecks. . . Before this Thursday’s ceremony is beamed from Staples Center, Pop & Hiss challenged the show’s host, comedian Kevin Hart, to a round of 20 questions as random as the awards themselves.” http://lat.ms/PZbDTU

THE TONGUE: New tastes, per the New York Times, “The Rolling Stones will release two new original songs when they put out a greatest hits record in November, Mojo magazine reported on Tuesday. The two songs – entitled “Gloom and Doom” and “One Last Shot” – were recorded in Paris last month and will appear on a three-CD set of the band’s hits, “GRRR!,” which is set to be released on Nov. 13.” http://nyti.ms/OM0ELf

One of Kelly's close friends -- who recently spoke to the actress in France -- tells TMZ, the "Gossip Girl" star was shocked when she saw photos of her arrival at the airport in Nice this weekend surfacing on the Internet, and believes her ex is to blame for leaking her location.” http://bit.ly/RhUCQw
