Capitol Heights murder: Michael Jerome Stewart accused, arrested in Brittany McKinley murder
Police have arrested the suspect in a shooting that left one woman dead and another injured in Capitol Heights.
The woman who died in the Sunday morning shooting as Brittany Sade McKinley, 25, of Capitol Heights. The surviving victim is 23.
Police say Michael Jerome Stewart, 33, of the 4800 block of Amberfield Way in Upper Marlboro was McKinley's ex-boyfriend. According to a preliminary investigation, Stewart got into an argument with McKinley at her job at Irving's Night Club before going to her home in the 4600 block of Heath Street, where he waited for her to return.
When she and a friend pulled up, police say, Stewart opened fired, striking both women.
Darlene Carroll says the victim was a loving mother who worked hard to support her child, taking a job at a strip club on Central Avenue. But recently, Carroll says, there had been trouble. McKinley lived at the boarding house in Capitol Heights with her young son for just about two months.
The two women drove as far as the restaurant on Central Avenue after the shooting.
By the time police got there, the young mother was dead. The other woman was taken to the hospital.
Police say Stewart was found in the Landover area.
