Nine dogs left homeless by torrential flooding in Mississippi arrived at the Washington Animal Rescue League Thursday. Some of the animals were surrendered during Hurricane Isaac, others were taken to shelters to make room for dogs abandoned during the storm.

“We try to spend as much time as we possibly can giving them attention because they just look up at us and they need that attention,” said Jennifer Gardner, Animal Rescue Officer.

Along with the puppies and adult dogs, three volunteers made the road trip to DC. They’re driving up the east coast in a dog-filled truck – hoping to find new homes for each and every rescued animal.

“We have a full service medical center,” said Mary Jarvis, CEO Washington Animal Rescue League. “We will be able to treat them here and get them good homes.”

Once the dogs are treated for any ailments, they will be put up for adoption.
