Today’s visit to the always open pop-culture beauty salon finds a sympathetic friend seeking clippers, totally strange stuff, many other items, and the mystery music video.

CURLS GONE FLAT: Rather, gone, per People, “Now this is friendship. Kellie Pickler appeared in a video clip on Good Morning America Wednesday sporting a very different look: a totally shaved head. The country starlet buzzed off her blonde locks on Tuesday in support of her best friend, Summer Holt Miller, 36, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and is starting chemotherapy treatments on Thursday.” http://bit.ly/RlxwbK

CREEPY: Yikes. Of Scientology, Tom Cruise and weird doings, per the Los Angeles Times, “An explosive new report contends the organization auditioned potential brides for Cruise following his 2001 split from Nicole Kidman -- one that's been backed up by a famous detractor of the religion. (This past weekend), Vanity Fair magazine released a cover story titled "What Katie Didn't Know," an expose claiming an effort on the part of the church to find and vet partners for Cruise, a title that eventually went to his now ex-wife Katie Holmes.” http://lat.ms/Q51mD0

SHOCKER: Didn’t see this coming. . .per Radar, “Michael Clarke Duncan’s tragic death on Monday devastated his family and friends, and now RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that a woman claiming to be his daughter is trying to extort his estate for financial gain, telling his family she wants “what’s mine.” Marqay Ambrose, 32, gave an interview to My Fox Chicago where she claimed that Duncan, 54, is her father and that they hadn’t spoken in eleven years.” http://bit.ly/OPoWUH

SWELL GUY: This makes you feel warm and fuzzy, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has promised not to sell stock in the social networking giant for at least a year. It’s a move that was set to reassure investors and staff concerned about Facebook's stock decline since its IPO in May. In a regulatory filing late Tuesday, Facebook said that Zuckerberg wouldn't sell any stock in the company for a year and that two high-profile board members, mass entrepreneur Marc Andreessen and Washington Post boss Donald Graham, have no plans to sell their personal stakes either beyond amounts needed to cover tax liabilities.” http://bit.ly/NS1XWE

KAL PENN: Kumar delivers for DNC, per the Huffington Post, “Penn gave an ardent defense of the Obama administration, but his clever dig at Clint Eastwood was certainly among the speech's highlights. "I've worked on a lot of fun movies, but my favorite job was having a boss who gave the order to take out Bin Laden and who's cool with all of us getting gay married,” Penn said. “So thank you invisible man in the chair, for that, and for giving my friends access to affordable health insurance and doubling funding for the Pell Grant." http://huff.to/RlHQRk

TWANG: Actually, these days, not so much, per the Los Angeles Times, “Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean were nominated Wednesday for the Country Music Assn.’s top honor as entertainer of the year, an award to be handed out Nov. 1 at the 46th CMA Awards ceremony in Nashville. But relative newcomer Eric Church, who received his first nomination last year, scored the most nominations this year with five, largely for his musical homage to rock star Bruce Springsteen: his song “Springsteen” is up for single, song and video of the year.” http://lat.ms/PIUtXr

DYLAN: “Out on Highway 61,” per the New York Times, “The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, N.Y., built in 1926 for movies and fondly remembered by many who saw bands perform there from 1970 through 1976, officially reopened as a rock hall on Tuesday night with a Bob Dylan concert. Mr. Dylan, who has used the Capitol as a rehearsal space, was in a jovial mode, which is not to say that tidings of apocalypse were absent.” http://nyti.ms/OXK4Zp

CANCER: Just the facts, per the Wrap, “Beloved author Judy Blume wrote in a blog post Wednesday that she is recovering after undergoing a masectomy for breast cancer that was diagnosed in June. The 74-year-old author, whose books inspired the "Fudge" TV series and the new film "Tiger Eyes," said she was planning to spend five weeks at an artists' colony in Italy, where she hoped to finish her latest novel. But on June 12 she underwent a biopsy that revealed cancer.” http://bit.ly/REQLl7

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH: Call me, maybe, per E!, “You can't be spotted in so much as the same hemisphere as another famous person of the opposite gender without romance rumors kicking into overdrive. Well, that goes double for members of the royal family. Pippa Middleton is no doubt discovering that this week, as her stateside trip spawns countless headlines (far more flattering ones than Prince Harry's Vegas sojourn, obviously), with the latest bout of reports centering on just how cozy she's gotten with hottie tennis ace Spencer Vegosen.” http://eonli.ne/Q5k5OM

NEXT: But first, per The Insider, “Say what you will about Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's much publicized relationship, but Kanye sure seems to be genuinely infatuated with the polarizing reality star. So much so that he doesn't even mind the sex tape that made her famous? While Kim has continuously claimed she was "embarrassed" by the release of the sex tape she made with then-boyfriend Ray J in 2007, in a leaked snippet of Kanye's song Clique (featuring Jay-Z and Big Sean) off his album Cruel Summer, he seems to be anything but.” http://bit.ly/NS7kVY
