A 34-year-old Capitol Heights man, who was allegedly posing as a 17-year-old, has been arrested on rape charges after police say he had sex with a 14-year-old girl he met on a social networking site.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says Kirk Douglas Yancey has been charged with third-degree sex offense and solicitation of a minor.

After communicating with the victim through a social networking site, authorities say Yancey met up with her in Waldorf, where they had sex. Afterwards, Yancey told the girl that he was 24 years old, not 17, as he had misled her to believe, authorities say. But an investigation later revealed Yancy's true age is 34.

Authorities say the victim told her parents about her sexual encounter with Yancy, and her parents called the police.

On September 17, detectives went to the victim’s neighborhood, where Yancey was planning to meet with the minor again. Once he arrived, Yancey was taken into custody.
