Mom pleads guilty to misdemeanor in child's injury prior to his death
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - A woman has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in connection with an injury to her 2-year-old son months before he was killed.
Twenty-nine-year-old Joaquinia LaJeuness of Columbia pleaded guilty on Thursday to causing her son to be a child in need of assistance.
The Baltimore Sun reports she was sentenced to time served and ordered on probation for two years.
On Nov. 3, 2010, a child care center reported that LaJeuness' son Elijah had arrived there with a bump on his forehead and bruises on his left ear.
LaJeuness was indicted a year later.
Elijah was 3 when he died in April 2011. His death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation. No one has been charged in that crime.
