Montgomery County sexual assaults, incidents may be linked
A series of sexual assaults and suspicious incidents in Montgomery County going back to June 2010 may be linked, authorities say.
The incidents include at least four sexual assaults as well as an assault that left a 50-year-old woman with a knife wound.
The most recent incident was a Sept. 22 “peeping tom” incident in the 15600 block of Marathon Circle in Gaithersburg.
One man, who declined to be identified, says his wife was headed to her car when she spotted a "peeping Tom"
"The guy was stooped outside our window with a mask or scarf over the bottom of his face," he says.
Before that incident, a 50-year-old woman was assaulted in her home in the 18100 block of Metz Drive in Germantown.
On Aug. 28, in the 900 block of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg, a suspect broke into a woman’s house and sexually assaulted the 37-year-old victim. Police say the suspect entered the house through an open window.
Police say these incidents may be linked to sexual assaults that occurred on June 19, 2010, August 23, 2010, and January 5, 2011.
"At this point we have to reason to believe all the incidents are connected,” says Janelle Smith, Montgomery County police spokeswoman. “We have determined that the three elderly victims incidents are connected by DNA."
