Nationals vs. Dodgers: Washington returns home with sights on playoff spot
UPDATE: Tonight's game has been postponed due to inclement weather. The Nationals will play a double header against the Dodgers Wednesday, beginning at 4:05 p.m. The second game will begin at 7:05 p.m. or 30 minutes after the end of the first.
After a weekend sweep at the hands of team that's hotly pursuing them in the National League East, the Washington Nationals are looking for a fresh start Tuesday night with the Los Angeles Dodgers coming to town.
There's still no reason to panic about the Nationals making the playoffs yet, even as they saw their lead over the Atlanta Braves whittled down to 5 1/2 games over the weekend. The team's magic number to clinch at least a Wild Card spot now sits at three.
With that number, the Nationals can clinch a playoff spot as early as Wednesday night. And if you're worried about the Nats missing the playoffs entirely after a down weekend, fear not.
According to the math gurus at CoolStandings.com, the Nationals have a 99.9 percent chance of making the playoffs and a 95.5 percent chance of winning the NL East. Their magic number to win the division is 11.
Jordan Zimmermann takes the mound for the Nationals Tuesday night. First pitch is at 7:05pm.
