Northwestern High School student stabbed
Prince George's County police say a 17-year-old high school student was stabbed by a fellow student near Northwestern High School in Hyattsville.
Police say the stabbing occurred at an apartment complex in the 6700 block of Belcrest Road in Adelphi.
Police surrounded the high school while detectives investigated the stabbing. The confrontation occurred at an apartment complex a few blocks from the school. School officials do not believe the students involved were in class Wednesday.
Students at Northwestern High School returned to class Thursday, greeted by counselors and a letter explaining exactly why their school was briefly placed on lock down.
The 17-year-old victim is expected to survive. In the meantime a number of students were detained by police for questioning.
"It's scary because there is so much going on with kids today in and out of school,” says parent William McLean. “Law enforcement will take care of it."
