Low hanging wires on the tracks of the Orange and Blue Lines of Metro caused significant delays during Tuesday's morning rush., WMATA officials say.

Trains on both lines began moving in both directions at about 9:20 a.m., metro says. However, the examination of low-hanging wires caused single-tracking  between Federal Center SW and Eastern Market.

That sent trains heading toward Vienna, New Carrollton, Franconia-Springfield and Largo into delays. Some even had to turn around and head in the opposite direction due to congestion.

It's the second time in less than a week that problems have significantly hampered the morning commute. Last Wednesday, two separate sections of the Red Line in the District experienced power problems.

Several trains were offloaded and delays were severe throughout the Red Line while power was restored.
