Prince George's County security cameras to watch speed cameras
Prince George’s County Police are hoping new security cameras will deter vandals from destroying speed cameras in the county.
Authorities say surveillance cameras are being installed and that a dozen or more will likely be in place by the end of the year.
Prince George’s mobile speed cameras have been shot at, knocked over, spray painted, burned and had their legs chopped off. Police say these "cameras watching other cameras" will help catch the vandals.
“If someone is foolish enough to burn a public piece of equipment, we are going to prosecute you,” said Major Robert Liberati, Prince George’s County Police.
Fifty-eight speed cameras are now in place throughout the county and more will be installed over the next few weeks.
