Reagan National Airport upgrade planned as passenger traffic increases
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Improvements are in store to keep up with increased passenger volume at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The Washington Examiner reports that the airport has seen a 4.4 percent increase in passenger traffic over the last year despite no increase in the number of domestic flights.
Jack Potter, president of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, says National is enjoying "a record level of activity."
He says the board will be spending money to keep up with that growth.
Among the improvements in store is a $45 million upgrade for the airport's oldest section, Terminal A.
Construction is expected to start before the end of the year and be finished by the end of 2013.
The terminal will get a wider security checkpoint, more baggage-handling areas and upgraded ticket counters.
