Residents across the D.C. area are continuing to clean up after a severe storm on Saturday felled trees, plunged residents into the dark and left the entire region soaked.

For Randy Sands, it’s round two.

During the June derecho, a tree damaged his roof. On Saturday, a tree crashed into a different part of his roof. His truck was also damaged during the weekend storm.

“It was unbelievable,” Sands says. “Everything was swirling and torqueing, flying through the air, so vicious and angry. It was phenomenal."

In those few seconds it tore a path of destruction. Some even said it was worse than the June 29 derecho.

Most of the damage came from the hundreds of towering trees. One carport's foundation was wobbly and the car inside damaged, crushed by a huge tree.

"It was a solid healthy tree. It went across the carport and the rest is history,” says homeowner Bill Hill.

It will take days to make a dent in this wreckage. But neighbors have found a symbol of hope.

Hill's "fighting Irish" flag was rescued from the rubble and back flying high.

"I put it up there because We never give up. We keep fighting,” Hill says. “This is a strong neighborhood."
