Metro launched a new convenient feature Wednesday that will take out the hassle of stopping at fare card vending machines or going online to add more value.

SmarTrip® Auto Reload will automatically add value to customers’ cards when their balances drop below a minimum threshold.

SmarTrip® Auto Reload will automatically add value to customers’ cards when their balances drop below a minimum threshold.

The new faster and easier feature means an end to waiting in line at fare machines.

Customers can have a pre-defined value automatically added to their card whenever the balance drops below $20 on a full fare SmarTrip® card or below $10 on a Senior/Disabled SmarTrip® card.

For those who use a 7-day bus or rail pass, Auto Reload will add a new pass when three days remain. For those who use the 28-day or 30-day pass, Auto Reload will add value when seven days remain.

Over 1,300 customers have successfully tested the Auto Reload feature.

To use the new feature, customers should register their cards and have an online SmarTrip® account. From there customers can use a debit or credit card to add value.
