Some UVA alumni ask for Helen Dragas to be rejected as rector
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Some University of Virginia alumni say they will ask legislators to reject the governor's reappointment nomination of the board leader behind an attempted ouster of President Teresa Sullivan.
Richard Marks of UVa Alumni for Responsible Corporate Governance told legislators at a town hall Thursday night that alumni would ask members of the General Assembly to block Rector Helen Dragas' nomination.
Dragas was the face of the failed removal effort. Sullivan was forced to resign in June, but the board unanimously reinstated her following two weeks of protests by students, faculty and alumni.
Media outlets report that legislators who hosted the town hall promised to look at how the university is governed. One said he is drafting legislation to require greater training for board members and more transparency for their actions.
