Gary Cook died from natural causes
In February, a Culpeper police officer shot and killed Patricia Cook. This week, her husband was found dead in an apartment.
But authorities say foul play didn't play a role in the man's death. The medical examiner says Gary Cook, 62, died of natural causes.
Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says 62-year-old Gary Cook was found dead in an apartment in the 1000 block of Friendship Way. A maintenance crew discovered Cook just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday while conducting routine service to the unit.
Geller says the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office contacted state police to investigate the unattended death.
Cook's wife, Patricia Cook, was shot and killed by Daniel Harmon Wright, a Culpeper police officer, in February 2012. Wright now faces murder charges.
"He didn't talk that much after the incident with his wife been tough on the family," said one of Gary's neighbors.
Back in May, a lawsuit was filed on Gary's behalf seeking $5 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages from Wright.
