Washington Highlands shooting leaves two men injured, suspect loose
Police are on the hunt for a man they say shot two people in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast D.C. Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting happened near the intersection of 4th and Atlantic streets SE around 1:30 p.m., MPD spokesperson Tisha Gant said. When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds; one had been shot in the chest and the other in the legs.
Police say both victims are in their 20s.
Investigators are now searching for the suspect, who authorities describe as a black man wearing a black shirt, black pants and glasses. He was last seen running down Southern Avenue.
There is no immediate word as to the condition of the two victims, but the man who was shot in the chest is expected to survive.
Residents said it is not the first time in recent weeks that gunfire erupted on the block, but they were too scared to show their faces on television.
