Washington Redskins ranked 24th in Pro32 NFL Power Rankings
The Associated Press has released its lateset of Pro32 NFL Power Rankings, and the Washington Redskins are apparently not held in high favor as they head into Week 1 of the 2012 season.
Washington ranks #24 in this week's edition of the AP NFL Power Rankings, which were released Tuesday night. The Redskins open the season on Sunday afternoon against the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes Benz Superdome.
The Redskins, who were picked by ESPN the Magazine to go 2-14 this season, are the lowest ranked NFC East team in this set of rankings. The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants are rated 3rd, while the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys rank 8th and 15th respectively.
"(Robert Griffin III) has taken D.C. by storm, and games haven't started," New York Newsday NFL columnist Bob Glauber, one of the 12 voters in the poll, said. "Don't expect miracles, but defense should keep team competitive. Relatively mistake-free play from the quarterback will make rebuilding process less painful."
The Green Bay Packers took the inaugural top spot in the rankings, while the New England Patriots, last year's AFC champions, come in at #2. The Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens round out the top five. Click here to check out the full rankings.
Most of the other voters, which include ESPN's Chris Berman, former NFL quarterback Rich Gannon and NBC Sports NFL analyst Cris Collinsworth, also centered on RG3 as a positive for the Redskins as they head into the season.
The 2012 regular season begins on Wednesday night when the Cowboys take on the Giants.
