Alexandria woman sexually assaulted near Van Dorn street
A 20-year-old Alexandria woman was sexually assaulted Thursday night near the intersection of Van Dorn Street and Courtney Avenue around 11:30 p.m., police say.
The woman told police a man approached her with a knife and demanded money. When she told him she didn't have any, she says he pulled her over a guardrail and into the bushes and sexually assaulted her. The woman says he ran off towards S. Pickett Street.
The woman described the suspect as Hispanic in his late twenties or early thirties. He is about 5'7" with short black hair and he's clean shaven. The man was wearing a dark brown t-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and black framed glasses.
Police don't believe the assault is related to prior assaults that have occurred in the Homes Run Parkway area.
Anyone with information should call 703-746-6600.
