Damon Wilson critical after police-involved shooting
A Prince George’s County police officer shot 24-year-old Damon Wilson of Hyattsville, who was involved in a domestic dispute in Bladensburg.
Authorities say officers responded to the 3500 block of 55th Avenue Sunday night for report of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, police say an officer was speaking with a woman, who had reported the complaint to police, when he encountered Wilson with a knife, who the complaint was allegedly about. Police say the officer ordered Wilson to drop the weapon but, instead, Wilson lunged at the officer. The officer shot him twice in the abdomen, inflicting non-life threatening injuries, police say.
Wilson remains in critical but stable condition.
Authorities say the officer, a four-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, was not injured. He is currently on routine administrative leave.
Wilson has been charged with attempted first and second-degree murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
