Carolyn Macy, California escapee, arrested in Fairfax
FAIRFAX, Va. (AP/ABC7) - California corrections officials say a woman who escaped from detention 12 years ago has been arrested in Fairfax.
Special agents with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation say Carolyn Macy was arrested in Fairfax on Friday by the Fairfax and Loudoun counties sheriff's departments.
“I commend our special agent for investigating this case with tenacity and commitment,” California Office of Correctional Safety Chief Anthony Chaus said. “We never stop looking for an escapee and are committed to apprehending them no matter what.”
Officials say Macy was sentenced in 1999 for grand theft of an employer exceeding $400. She was transferred to a community center in Los Angeles in January 2000 before her scheduled parole and escaped on Feb. 2, 2000.
Macy was also involved in identity theft in the Commonwealth, Virginia authorities report. She may face additional charges in the state.
