D.C. Council at-large candidates set for TV debate
WASHINGTON (AP) - Four candidates for an at-large D.C. Council seat will be sitting down for their first televised debate.
Incumbents Vincent Orange and Michael A. Brown and challengers Mary Brooks Beatty and David Grosso will appear on NewsChannel 8's "NewsTalk" program on Thursday.
Two at-large seats are being contested this November, and the top two vote-getters win.
Orange is expected to win election easily as the only Democrat on the ballot.
But the second contested seat is reserved for a non-majority party. Brown and Grosso are independents, and Beatty is a Republican.
Grosso is the best-funded candidate for that seat after Brown reported that the entire balance of his campaign account was stolen.
Police are investigating the missing money.
Three additional at-large candidates will debate on the program next week.
