D.C. police: Men in Camry with Pa. plates shoot, kill man walking in River Terrace
Police are searching for two suspects wanted in connection with a murder in the middle of a D.C. street.
The shooting happened about noon at Benning Road and 36th Street in Northeast Washington.
Neighbors stood in small groups in the liquor store parking lot and in front yards along 36th Street, watching as police, including Chief Cathy Lanier, investigated at the scene of the murder.
Everybody in the River Terrace neighborhood knew the victim, Anthony Watts, as "Buck."
"I'm still shocked. I mean, everything going through my head right now, far as this, this is crazy," says Treyvon Johnson, a friend of the victim.
Police believe two men in a black Toyota Camry with tinted windows and Pennsylvania plates drove up on the victim as he walked.
Witnesses say 6-8 shots were fired.
"We're looking for information," says Police Chief Cathy Lanier. "If anyone knows who may have been occupying that car or who was in this area today, any information you could give us would be helpful."
His friends say Watts just turned 31 earlier this month.. They say he grew up in this neighborhood where he had many friends.
"The perpetrators that did this, I must speak freely and say I hope bad things happen to them," says Raeshard Blue, a friend of Watts.
