Electronic Vehicle Taxicab Company proposes electric taxi fleet in Arlington
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A new taxicab company is hoping to win approval from the Arlington County Board to launch an all-electric fleet of cabs.
The Washington Examiner reports Electronic Vehicle Taxicab Company is calling for a fleet of 40 cabs. They would be equipped with iPads in the backseats to allow riders to browse the Internet and pay with credit cards.
EV Taxicab founder Malik Khattak says no one should have to ask different cabs if they take credit cards.
The company plans to use Nissan Leaf cars. The cabs could also be booked from a smartphone.
The Arlington County Board is expected to hold a hearing in November on whether to add 65 new cabs, including the EV Taxicab fleet. Currently, 765 taxis operate in the county.
