Fairfax County pedestrian accident kills one
Updated: October 18, 2012 - 11:27 am
A pedestrian has died after being struck by dump truck along Richmond Highway in Fairfax County.
Mount Vernon Police say the man walked into the unlit roadway and was hit by an oncoming drump truck, just south of Huntington Avenue, shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday. The 64-year-old driver tried to avoid hitting the victim, but was unable to, police said. The driver called police and remained at the scene.
Police say the victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
