Fairlington apartment fire kills elderly man
An elderly man has died after a two-alarm fire at a Fairlington apartment complex.
Arlington Fire officials say crews responding to the 2900 block of South Buchanan Street found smoke coming from the top floor of a garden-style apartment building.
ArlNow reports the man died after becoming trapped inside his apartment.
The victim was reportedly a hoarder and clutter prevented him from escaping from his unit when the fire broke out, a law enforcement source told ArlNow.
Arlington Fire confirms the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Ten people were reportedly displaced.
It's unclear what started the fire and the victim’s cause of death.
