WASHINGTON (AP) - Three Virginia men have been found guilty in the death of a District of Columbia man who was found stabbed and strangled in his northeast Washington apartment in 2011.

According to evidence presented at trial, the victim, 61-year-old Glenn Scarborough, had a longstanding relationship with the mother of one of his killers, 22-year-old Theodore Spencer of Unionville.

In the months before Scarborough's murder, Spencer's mother was diagnosed with bladder cancer and was hospitalized.

Prosecutors say Spencer blamed Scarborough for his mother's condition.

A jury on Monday found Spencer and two others, 20-year-old Terrell Wilson of Culpeper and 21-year-old Phillip Swan of Orange, guilty of attacking Scarborough and torturing him.

The three face the possibility of life in prison at sentencing, which has been set for Dec. 19.
